2 SCHOOLS NAMED NATIONAL FINALISTS PS 5 & 28 to Compete in Lexus Eco Challenge Final Round2 SCHOOLS NAMED NATIONAL FINALISTSPS 5 & 28 to Compete in Lexus Eco Challenge Final Round

For the third year in a row, Christa McAuliffe PS 28 has had team finalists in the Lexus Eco Challenge. This year, the "Algae Extinguishers" and "S.T.A.X. (Super Tilapia Algae Xterminators)" have been named finalists, and the school has received $10,000 for their efforts. The two teams, made up of 8th grade students, are guided by teachers Malissa Yabut, Robert O'Donnell and Joel Naatus, and focused on projects related to innovative solutions to freshwater systems.

The Lexus Eco Challenge has empowered middle and high school students to improve their communities by participating in three separate, environmentally themed competitions. Students (and teachers) have been making a difference in the eco health of our planet through this STEM-focused contest since 2006. They're fully immersed in their projects and are driven to explore real-world solutions for these issues. The Lexus Eco Challenge also affords an opportunity to make a significant change in their communities - one that they typically treasure and continue to build upon in the years to come.
